Viral shoving match between motorists now a police case

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are probing a dust-up yesterday between two motorists, which has gone viral on social media.

Kajang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof, said one of the people in the incident, a 40-year-old man, had lodged a police report over the altercation.

However, no details were given on where the incident took place.

"In the 3.29pm incident, one of the motorists displayed an obscene gesture to the other while driving. Both parties stopped, got out of their vehicles and became embroiled in a shoving match.

"Neither party was injured in the incident," he said, adding that the actual cause of the altercation is still under investigation.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which upon conviction, could result in imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.

"The case is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for the use of indecent, threatening, abusive or insulting words with intent to provoke a breach of the peace which may carry a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM100 if convicted."

Naazron called on those with information on the incident to provide details to the police.

"The public can contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Noriyati Abdullah, at 016-3516908 to assist with the investigation," he said.
