KUALA LUMPUR: Social media influencers Mohd Hazalif Mohd Hazani, better known as Alif Teega, and his wife, Aisyah Hijanah Azhari, who face multiple charges of misappropriating infaq (Islamic charity) donations, will be tried together at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
This follows Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi's decision to grant deputy public prosecutor Julaila Jamaludin's request to transfer two of Hazalif's cases to the Shah Alam Sessions Court, where the couple face 10 joint charges.
Earlier, Julaila requested a joint trial under Section 61 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
Hazalif's lawyer, Mohd Shahrullah Khan, did not object to the request and asked the court to set an early mention date, as his client has applied for the temporary release of his passport.
Azura said she would notify her Shah Alam counterpart to transfer the RM50,000 bail allowed in this case.
The mention date has been set for Wednesday at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
Hazalif, 30, and Aisyah, 26, were present in court today.
On Sept 20, Hazalif pleaded not guilty to two charges of misappropriating RM63,605.48 from infaq donations meant for qurban (slaughtering of livestock during Eid al-Adha) and iftar programmes in April and June.
In the first charge, he is accused of dishonestly misusing RM36,047.35 meant for iftar in Makkah, Syria, and Palestine, at CIMB Bank at KL Gateway on April 26.
In the second charge, he allegedly misused RM27,558.13 meant for the "Jom! Sertai Infaq Daging Qurban" programme at the same bank on June 15.
On Sept 23, the couple were hit with 10 joint charges for misappropriating RM1,526,372 in donations meant for the poor, flood victims, and orphans three years ago.
