TANAH MERAH: A nine-year-old schoolboy died after he was rammed by a car while crossing a road at Kampung Belimbing here last night.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the victim who was the pupil of Sekolah Agama Rahmaniah in Kampung Paloh, died while receiving treatment at the Tanah Merah Hospital.
He said police received a report on the incident at Jalan Pasir Mas-Tanah Merah about 9pm.
"Initial investigations showed that the car driver was heading to Pasir Mas from Tanah Merah when the incident happened.
"According to the driver, the boy suddenly crossed from left to right side of the road and he failed to stop the vehicle on time as the distance between him and the boy was close.
"This caused his car to knock down the boy, causing the victim to fall near the road shoulder. He suffered serious injuries on his head," he said in a statement.
Mohd Haki said the boy was rushed to the Tanah Merah Hospital but died while receiving treatment.
"The body was sent for a post-mortem at the same hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987."
