Nepali tried to kidnap child because he missed his own

SUNGAI BULOH: The foreign man who was caught for trying to abduct a child from a house in Kuang has been referred to the psychiatric ward.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said investigations revealed that the 38-year-old suspect acted that way because he missed his two children.

"We believe the motive for the abduction was because the Nepali suspect missed his two children who were of similar age to the child whom he attempted to grab.

"He began behaving erratically because of the emotional condition.

"Further investigations revealed the suspect last went back to his homeland during the 2023 Hari Raya Aidilfitri period," he said when contacted.

Hafiz said police were now checking with the Immigration Department on the man's entry into Malaysia and work permit status.

"The suspect has been referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital psychiatric ward for further action," he said.

It was reported that a group of concerned neighbours performed a citizen's arrest on a foreign man who had allegedly attempted to abduct a child here.

The incident allegedly occurred about 12.40pm on Oct 22 in Kampung Bunga Raya, Kuang, when a man heard his neighbour screaming that her child was almost abducted.

The man and several other residents chased after the man and caught up to him near a rubbish disposal site, where a scuffle ensued.

They managed to detain the man and handed him over to the police for further action when they arrived at the scene moments later.
