KUALA LUMPUR: A night market trader who created a ruckus near the Bukit Bintang member of parliament's office here was slapped with a maximum RM100 fine by the magistrate's court today (Oct 29).
Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan fined Kon Kian Pou, 42, after he pleaded guilty to shouting vulgarities at Lee Kian Wei in public.
The charge was framed under the Minor Offences Act, in which Section 14 of the Act provides for a maximum fine of RM100. She ordered him to serve three days' jail if he failed to pay the fine.
Kon was accused of committing the act on Lee, who is the MP's officer, at 3.30am at the office in Jalan Landak, Bukit Bintang, here on Oct 24.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri asked the court to hand down an appropriate sentence.
The accused, who was represented by lawyer A. Daniel from the National Legal Aid Foundation, asked for a light sentence as he was recovering from surgery.
