Man fined RM100 for mocking RTD officer

IPOH: A man was fined RM100 in the magistrate's court here today after he pleaded guilty to mocking a Road Transport Department officer last week.

Magistrate Siti Nora Sharif imposed a fine of RM100 on Samsudin Yoep, 58, after he was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which allows for a maximum fine of RM100.

She also ordered that he be sentenced to seven days in jail if he failed to pay the fine. He promptly paid the amount.

According to the charge sheet, the man had told a 52-year-old RTD officer, "JPJ kena bayar dulu, baru kerja jalan"  with the intention of disrupting public order.

This incident occurred at the RTD counter in Kampung Simee at 9am on Oct 22, where the man repeatedly made the statement in front of the officer, leading the victim to file a report.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aqilah Syaza Ariffin urged the court to impose a fitting penalty on the accused.

The accused's lawyer, Robert Gnanarajan from the National Legal Aid Foundation, requested a minimum sentence, emphasising that his client needed to support his wife and three children.
