SEPANG: A Japanese man's holiday took a turn after his wallet was allegedly stolen at KLIA Terminal 1, leading to unauthorised transactions amounting to RM7,622.
KLIA district police chief Azman Shari'at said police received a report on Oct 22 after the tourist realised his wallet was missing while dining in Petaling Jaya. He suspected it had been pickpocketed at the airport, noting that the zipper on his backpack was open.
He later received notifications of "three transactions at locations unknown to him," prompting him to block all his bank cards.
Following an investigation, a team from KLIA, along with an Aviation Security (Avsec) auxiliary police unit, detained three Chinese nationals on Oct 25 at the international arrivals concourse of KLIA Terminal 1.
Police believe the suspects are connected to the theft and possibly other pickpocketing incidents.
A remand order was obtained for the suspects from Oct 26 to today.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
The Deputy Public Prosecutor has reviewed the case, and the suspects are set to be charged in the Sepang Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
