Immigration dept detains ten foreign women in prostitution raid in Seri Kembangan
KUALA LUMPUR: Ten foreign women believed to be sex workers have been detained by the Immigration Department.
Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said they raided a premise at Jalan SP 2/2, Taman Serdang Perdana, Seri Kembangan at around 10pm yesterday (Oct 29).
"The operation which was led by one of our officers, Khairil Anwar Mat Soud comprised of 5 officers from the Shah Alam Enforcement Division and 13 officers from the Port Klang Enforcement Division.
"Based on a public tip off, we gathered intelligence and monitored the syndicate for two weeks before conducting the raid," he said in a statement today (Oct 30).
He said they detained six Vietnamese women, two Thai women and two Indonesian women as well as three men from India.
"All of those detained were aged between 21 and 35.
"We also detained two local men aged 45 and 60 who are believed to be the caretakers of the premises," he said adding that they also seized CCTV equipment and other items used for prostitution activities.
He said all the foreigners were taken to the Semenyih Immigration Detention Depot for further action.
"The two men detained are believed to also be pimps and have been placed at the Pandamaran police lockup for further action.
"We remind the public that stern action will be taken against anyone who commits offences under the Immigration Act, Passport Act, Immigration Regulations as well as the Anti Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM)," he said.
