Six foreigners detained in Immigration Dept raids on business premises in Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: Six foreigners were detained when the Immigration Department raided several premises Puchong, Serdang and Shah Alam .

Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said the raids were conducted at around 11am on Wednesday (July 17).

"We checked a total of 14 premises at Taman Seri Muda, Taman Meranti Indah, Bandar Bukit Puchong, Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Bandar Kinrara and Puchong Utama.

"A total of 17 personnel checked business premises including a plastics and pottery shop, barber, restaurant, workshop, food processing factory, hardware shop, electronics repair shop and snooker centre," he said when contacted today (July 18).

Checks, he said, revealed that some of these premises hired foreigners who had temporary foreign worker permits.

"When we checked the snooker centre, an Indonesian man tried to hide in the woman's toilet and pretended to be a customer in order to avoid getting caught.

"His act failed because all his personal belongings were placed at the main counter at the premises," he said.

He said they checked a total of 52 individuals during the raids and detained six foreigners.

"They comprise two Indonesian women and an Indonesian man at the snooker centre, two Myanmar men who worked at a hardware shop and a Bangladeshi barber.

"Those detained were between 20 and 40 and were taken to the Semenyih Immigration Detention Depot for further action," he said, adding that those detained were being investigated for overstaying and illegal entry.
