Lorry driver crashes into 3 vehicles, tests positive for drugs

SEREMBAN: A lorry driver who crashed into three vehicles in front of a mosque on Jalan Salak Tinggi-Nilai, near Kampung Bukit Kadir, Nilai, after Friday prayers yesterday (Nov 1) has tested positive for drugs.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said the 31-year-old driver has been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation.

"A remand application was made yesterday morning at the magistrates' court here, where the Court Registrar Ain Nuraina Rohaizad granted a four-day remand on the suspect.

"Initial urine screening results showed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Previously, a video clip showing a group of villagers urging the lorry driver, who refused to exit the vehicle after allegedly crashing into three vehicles at the scene, circulated on social media.

Meanwhile, Abdul Malik said only the driver and a passenger from one of the cars sustained injuries in the accident.

"When we arrived at the scene, the lorry's brakes had failed, causing it to veer into the opposite lane and collide with three vehicles, which are a Proton S70, a Honda CR-V, and a Perodua Kenari.

"The Perodua Kenari spun around and then struck a four-wheel drive vehicle parked on the roadside," he said.
