Kedah Perhilitan on alert for wildlife conflicts amid floods

ALOR STAR: The state Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) remains on high alert to address human-wildlife conflicts amid floods in Kedah.

State Perhilitan director Dr Abdul Malek Mohd Yusof said the department was committed to keeping wildlife conflicts under control.

"Conflicts are likely caused by wildlife being displaced from their natural habitats due to floods. These mostly involve primates, snakes, civets, crocodiles, and similar species," he said today.

He said some wildlife, such as pythons, may enter flooded homes in search of food and shelter.

"So far, complaints have been manageable, and our officers are carrying out their duties as usual.

"There are some challenges, such as certain routes being inaccessible to department vehicles, but we are adapting to the situation as it develops."

Abdul Malek said residents should remain vigilant to avoid risks from wildlife encounters.

"Anyone experiencing wildlife-related disturbances is urged to contact the department immediately."
