Lorry driver nabbed with RM134,000 worth of smuggled fruit plants in Kelantan

RANTAU PANJANG: The General Operations Force here seized 1,296 smuggled fruit plants worth about RM134,000, here, yesterday.

GOF Southeast Brigade GOF Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said a man was also arrested while driving a lorry carrying the plants in Kampung Parit Air.

"A GOF team spotted the vehicle at about 1.30pm.

"GOF personnel found the plants from three species," he said.

Initial investigation showed that the plants, including longan and jambu, were smuggled from Thailand.

He said an individual hired the 30-year-old lorry driver to deliver the plants to local buyers.

In a separate case, two Thai nationals were detained with smuggled Thai snacks worth about RM11,000, here, yesterday.

A Toyota Hilux that used to transport the food was also seized, he said.

"The two Thais, aged 28 and 69, were flagged down at a roadblock at Chabang Empat Salam, where they were detained at 7.30am."
