Malaysia ready to help Thai police with dual-citizenship criminal list

PASIR MAS: Malaysia is ready to assist Thai police in tackling cross-border crimes involving dual-citizenship criminals, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

This comes amid reports that criminals with dual citizenship posed a problem to both Thai and Malaysian cops.

These criminals would switch between using their MyKad or Thai identification to avoid detection by the authorities.

Saifuddin said a joint committee for cooperation between Thai and Malaysian authorities already exists.

"The Thai authorities can submit a list (of criminals with dual citizenship) to Malaysian police, and the police can then check it against our (National Registration Department) database.

"Only the NRD can confirm it," he said after the One Leader One Village programme here today.

Saifuddin said he welcomed Thai police to provide more information on the matter to their Malaysian counterparts.

Saifuddin said Malaysia does not recognise dual citizenship and that it was unconstitutional.
