KOTA BARU: The state Immigration Department rounded up 24 undocumented migrants in a two-day operation codenamed Op Sapu which ended yesterday.
Kelantan Immigration Department deputy director (management) Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said the 24 were detained for entering Malaysia without proper documents and overstaying.
He added that the operation, which began at 11am on Monday, covered four districts — Kuala Krai, Bachok, Pasir Puteh and Kota Baru.
He said 21 immigration officers took part in it.
"The operation was carried out at an industrial area and several villages in the districts. During the operation, 56 immigrants were inspected and 24 were detained for entering the county illegally and for overstaying."
He said the 24 comprised 19 men and five women.
"The illegal immigrants, aged between 18 to 51, were from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia and Cambodia."
He added that all of them were sent to the department's detention centre in Tanah Merah for further action.
