KOTA BARU: The state Immigration Department has rounded up 13 illegal immigrants in a two-day operation code named Ops Sapu which ended yesterday.
State Immigration Department deputy director Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said the operation which began on Sunday covered several areas here and in Kuala Krai.
He said the immigrants were among 19 inspected by immigration officers and they were detained for entering the country illegally.
He added a total of 22 immigration officers took part in the operation which started at 2pm on Sunday.
"The operation covered nine premises in the two districts and the premises included a sundry shop and housing areas.
"During the operation, the immigration officers inspected 19 foreigners but 13 were detained for entering Malaysia without proper documents.
"The 13 were from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar and Thailand," he said in a statement.
He added the 13 including four women, were aged between 20 to 48, and all were being held for further action.
"Their case is being investigated under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he added.
