No health and safety officer, so construction firm fined RM4,000

GEORGETOWN: A construction firm has been fined RM4,000 by the Magistrate's Court for failing to hire a health and safety officer for a RM20 million project.

The company, Kerjaya Prospek (M) Sdn Bhd pleaded guilty to the charge read before judge Mohamad Azlan Basri.

The charge was framed under Section 29(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

In a statement, the Occupational Safety and Health Department said the offence was uncovered during a spot check at the project site on the man-made Pualau Andaman on Feb 7.

The department said it hoped the case would serve as a lesson to employers to adhere to occupational safety and health laws.
