KUCHING: A 35-year-old man from Kuching, who threatened singer and actress Baby Shima in a Facebook post on New Year's Eve, has been fined RM4,000 by the Sibu Magistrate's Court.
Mel Maxpherson Munded, a truck driver, had pleaded guilty earlier to making a comment containing threatening and intimidating language towards the singer's safety. The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Oon Kork Chern.
Munded was arrested by police in Kota Sentosa last Tuesday and was subsequently brought to Sibu for his court appearance.
In an Instagram post, the 32-year-old Baby Shima had shared a screenshot of a comment from a Facebook user, who reportedly expressed displeasure about her presence in Sarawak and issued a death threat.
Nor Ashima Ramli, better known as Baby Shima, has faced criticism in the past for her provocative social media posts and has previously received death threats from an unknown source.
The artist, known for blending R&B, jazz, and soul, has a large following across Southeast Asia.
