60 arrested for drug abuse in raid on KL entertainment outlet

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 60 people for alleged drug abuse during a raid at an entertainment outlet in Jalan Sultan Ismail here on Saturday.

Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said a team from the department raided the outlet at 4.30am and found 181 individuals partying inside.

"Further checks, including urine test screenings on all of them, showed 60 tested positive for illegal drug use.

"Out of the 60 who tested positive, 56 were locals while the rest are foreigners, all aged between 20 to 42 years old," Khaw said in a statement.

He said those arrested are being investigated under Section 39B, Section 12(2), and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said police confiscated a total of 393.1g of MDMA, 22.9g of ketamine and 0.8g of cannabis, with an estimated street value of RM63,530.

"All drug samples and urine tests taken from the suspects have been sent to the Pathology/Chemistry Department for further analysis," he said.

He said checks showed that the outlet had a valid operating licence.

He urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts in maintaining public safety and eradicating drug-related crimes.
