KUALA LUMPUR: An express bus carrying 20 passengers from Ipoh to Seremban crashed into a drain at Km427.1 of the North-South Expressway in Hulu Selangor last night.
The driver of the vehicle suffered light injuries but the passengers escaped unhurt in the 11.45pm incident.
Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle at the time.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus, which was en route from Ipoh to Seremban to transport passengers, went out of control, veering off the road and ending up in the drain on the left shoulder of the expressway.
"The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement today.
Faizal said the stranded passengers, meanwhile, continued their journey to Seremban on a replacement bus sent by the bus operator.
He said the bus has been impounded pending investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
"We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and help police with the ongoing investigation," he said.
