Police discover blood traces in Lahad Datu college murder case

TAWAU: A police forensic officer testified that blood traces were found in three dormitories at Lahad Datu Vocational College during an investigation on March 24.

The 21st prosecution witness, Deputy Superintendent Rafidah Kasim, said the investigation covered three dormitories — 7 Resak, 5 Belian, and 7 Belian.

She said in dormitory 7 Resak, which was victim Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Azwan's room, six double-decker beds and 12 two-door steel wardrobes were present.

Blood traces were found on the floor and the victim's mattress.

In dormitory 5 Belian, where the victim was allegedly assaulted, more blood traces were discovered, along with a blood-stained long-sleeved shirt in a bucket and a grey blanket on a mattress.

Dormitory 7 Belian, where the victim was found unconscious before being pronounced dead, also had a blood-stained mattress.

Evidence collected included blood swabs, mattress pieces, clothing and a white Realme phone charger cable for DNA analysis.

During cross-examination, Rafidah admitted that Poly Light equipment wasn't used, but agreed it could detect invisible blood traces.

Thirteen teenagers aged 16 to 19 are charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, for the murder of Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat. If convicted, they face the death penalty or 30 to 40 years of imprisonment with up to 12 lashes.

The trial continues this afternoon.
