Sanusi relieved after acquittal over seditious remarks against Sultan of Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor expressed relief after being acquitted and discharged (AnD) from one sedition charge for allegedly making seditious remarks against the Sultan of Selangor last year.

"I am grateful for the AnD on the first charge. I feel a little relieved. Now, I will await developments on the second charge related to the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said after court proceedings today.

Sanusi, the Jeneri assemblyman, said that he would consult with his lawyers to consider submitting a representation to the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) regarding the second charge.

Representations are typically made to request the withdrawal or reduction of charges.

Sanusi's lawyer, Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, clarified that following the AnD, no further proceedings would occur on this matter.

"We want to thank Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for his consent (to accept Sanusi's apology for the remarks) in this matter," he said.

Sanusi will now face trial for alleged seditious remarks against Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The trial is scheduled for Feb 24 to 28.

Earlier, High Court judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin granted the AnD after the prosecution said it would withdraw and discontinue the charge.
