Three Indian nationals jailed for entering Malaysia illegally

KOTA BARU: Three Indian nationals were jailed by the Magistrates' Court here today for entering the northeastern district of Rantau Panjang in Kelantan without valid travel documents.

The three - Samrat Bajaj, 44, Sahil, 21, and Naveen, 19 - had earlier pleaded guilty to the offence after the charges were read by court interpreter.

The three accused were alleged to have committed the offence in Kampung Rantau Panjang on Dec 9.

The court sentenced the three accused to three months in prison starting today.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahfuzah Hamizah Mohd Ariff prosecuting the case while the three accused were unrepresented.

Earlier, Mahfuzah requested that the court impose a severe punishment on the three accused to serve as a deterrent to others.

Samrat who can speak English in his mitigation told the court that he along with Sahil and Naveen had been in Thailand for three months and have ran out of money.

"We ran out of money while in Thailand and decided to enter Malaysia to meet some friends here and asked for their help," he said.
