KUALA LANGAT: Police have arrested six local men in connection with a violent altercation outside an entertainment premise in Jenjarom on Thursday that has gone viral.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said police were alerted to the case on Dec 19 at about 10.50pm by a doctor from Banting Hospital.
He said the doctor reported treating a male patient with severe head injuries in the hospital's red zone.
"Acting on the information, a team of personnel from district police with the help of Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department arrested six suspects in the early hours of Dec 20.
"The suspects aged between 23 and 53 were arrested separately around Kuala Langat and Kuala Lumpur at about 2.30am," he said.
Police obtained a three-day remand until tomorrow to investigate the suspects.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the motive of the assault is allegedly over some fraud involving money, US dollar to China currency conversion but the investigation is still ongoing," he said.
Mohd Akmalrizal said police have classified the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting armed with weapons.
"If convicted, the suspects face a maximum prison sentence of five years, a fine, or both.
"The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are actively searching for the other suspects involved in the altercation," he said.
