KUALA LUMPUR: Police are conducting further investigations into the discovery of a decomposed body in Banting, Selangor, yesterday, believed to be linked to the case of a 15-year-old girl reported missing on Dec 19.
Sources said the body, suspected to have been murdered and dumped in a river, was discovered following the arrest of three people, one of whom is believed to be the victim's boyfriend.
Earlier, it was reported that the teenager went missing after attending a lion dance practice at a basketball court in Cheras.
Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that three people have been arrested to assist with the investigation so far.
"The body was found in a decomposed state. For now, we are awaiting the results of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sample to confirm the victim's identity.
"We believe the discovery (of the body) is related (to the teenager's disappearance), but we need to wait for DNA confirmation, which we expect within a day or two," he said when contacted.
He also said that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and a full statement on the case will be issued once the DNA results are obtained.
