KUALA LUMPUR: A man was today charged at the magistrate's court here with the murder of a homeless man last month.
Muhammad Aiman Abdullah, 39, was accused of murdering Saravanan Palanisamy, 45.
He allegedly committed the act between 9.45pm and 10.07pm underneath the bridge at Jalan Tun Sambanthan near Scott Hotel, KL Sentral on Nov 23.
Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty, a jail term of between 30 and 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the rotan.
The charge was read out twice to Aiman as he told the court it was unclear the first time. He said he understood the charge after it was read out again to him before magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan.
No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa did not offer bail and asked the court to set a mention date for the submission of the post-mortem and chemistry reports. Feb 19 was set for mention.
Aiman was arrested on Dec 19 and remanded for investigations after the death of the victim, whose case was reclassified from a sudden death report to murder.
This came following a post-mortem report which revealed the victim sustained a blunt trauma to his head.
Aiman was identified through a close-circuit television camera recording. The motive for the alleged murder is unknown.
