PinkFish concert: 2 in ICU regain consciousness

KUALA LUMPUR: Two people who were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the University Malaya Medical Centre after attending the PinkFish Countdown 2024 concert—where four people lost their lives—have regained consciousness.

"We were informed by the hospital that both individuals have regained consciousness but remain weak," Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said when contacted today.

Hussein said the police recorded statements from nine more people to assist in the investigation.

They included the concert organiser and friends of the seven affected individuals.

"So far, we have recorded statements from 15 individuals," he said.

Previously, the police had recorded statements from six individuals and opened four investigation papers.

On Jan 1, Selangor police confirmed receiving reports regarding the deaths of four local individuals who attended the New Year's Eve party.

The reports concerning all the victims, including two women aged between 20 and 40, were lodged by UMMC.

Hussein revealed on Thursday that the four individuals who died at the concert, as well as three others who were hospitalised, were all believed to have consumed party drug ecstasy.

He said the three other hospitalised individuals displayed symptoms similar to those who had passed away.

Investigations showed that all seven people had attended the same concert but were in separate groups; some with friends and others with family members.
