JERANTUT: A 14-year-old boy has been reported missing after falling into Sungai Pahang while fishing on a floating raft house at Kampung Pedah near Kampung Jerantut Feri earlier today.
Azri Fahmi Bahiudin Zaiful Afandi was fishing with two friends when he fell into the water and was swept away by strong river currents around 5pm.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said the Jerantut fire station was alerted to the incident at approximately 5.07pm.
"Azri, along with his friends, was fishing at the raft house when he accidentally fell into the water.
"Eight firemen were deployed to the riverbank and are currently searching the area.
"Firemen conducted a surface search covering about 1.5km from the raft house using an aluminium boat, with assistance from villagers.
"The department's Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) divers from the Bukit Angin fire station in Temerloh have been mobilised to the river, and search operations are ongoing," he said in a statement today.
