Langkawi angler missing after fall from wavebreaker

LANGKAWI: A man is feared to have drowned after falling into the sea while walking on a wavebreaker in Kuala Chenang here yesterday (Dec 5).

He is believed to be heading home after a fishing trip.

Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said the victim, Che Yassin Che Ngah, 43, from Kampung Perdana, Ulu Melaka, was last seen around 11.30pm by his brother-in-law, who went fishing with him.

"Before the incident, the two had finished fishing and were walking back while pushing their motorcycles.

"Upon reaching the middle of a bridge connecting the wavebreaker, the victim reportedly stepped on a rotten plank, which broke and caused him and his motorcycle to fall into the sea," he said in a statement today.

Shariman added that the victim was seen floating for a few minutes before disappearing into the water, and is now feared drowned.

"The search and rescue operation was activated half an hour after the incident and continued until 4am. It resumed at 8am this morning," he added.

He said up to 5.30pm today, the search operation was ongoing. Hamzah Osman
