KUALA LUMPUR: Three family members suspected of involvement in the murder of 15-year-old Yap Xin Yuan have been remanded for another five days, starting tomorrow.
Kajang court magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil granted the application to allow police to complete investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The three suspects are the victim's 17-year-old boyfriend, his 21-year-old brother, and their 52-year-old father. They had been arrested on Dec 30, 2024 and remanded for six days.
It was reported that police were investigating elements of misunderstanding and drug use behind the death of the teenager.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they were awaiting toxicology reports and post-mortem results to establish the motive in the case.
He said that urine tests conducted on the three suspects returned negative for drugs.
It was reported that the teen's body was found in a river in Banting, Selangor, on Saturday.
The Form Three student failed to return home after attending a lion dance practice at a basketball court in Batu 11, Cheras on Dec 19.
