Police to record statements from PinkFish concert organisers, venue operators soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will summon the organiser of the PinkFish Countdown 2024 concert and the venue operator soon to record their statements as part of the investigation into the case in which four concert attendees died.

Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, when contacted, confirmed the matter.

Wan Azlan also said that investigations will cover the alleged sale of ecstasy drugs, which is believed to have occurred both inside and outside the venue during the concert.

"We will also call the venue operator as part of our investigation," he said.

"In addition to the organisers, we have also contacted the victims' family members and friends," he told the New Straits Times.

Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said two people who were being treated in the intensive care unit at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) after attending the concert have regained consciousness.

Hussein said the police recorded statements from 15 people to facilitate the investigation.

On Jan 1, Hussein confirmed receiving reports regarding the deaths of four local individuals who attended the New Year's Eve concert.

The reports concerning all the victims, including two women aged between 20 and 40, were lodged by UMMC.

Hussein said the four individuals who died at the concert, as well as three others who were hospitalised, were all believed to have consumed ecstasy.

He said the three other hospitalised individuals displayed symptoms similar to those who had passed away.

Investigations showed that all seven people had attended the same concert but were in separate groups; some with friends and others with family members.
