KUALA LUMPUR: Special efforts to protect the endangered Malayan Tiger (panthera tigris jacksoni) species will be intensified.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Malaysia is the only Malayan Tiger habitat in the world.
"Such initiative is important to ensure the balance of the ecosystem so that the sustainability of nature is guaranteed," he said during the presentation of 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) mid-term review.
He also said enforcement to protect other exotic animals will also be carried out.
He said that enforcement in dealing with illegal hunting crimes, expanding protected areas, as well as empowering local communities will be intensified in an effort to protect other endangered species such as elephants, orangutans, turtles, gaur and tapirs.
