JOHOR BARU: Doctors are closely monitoring a blood clot on the left shoulder of an 11-year-old boy who had his legs amputated following alleged beatings by an assistant warden at his school's hostel.
Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi is still at the High Dependency Ward of the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here.
His aunt Nurul Nabilah Ahmad, 30, said that Thaqif was still in an induced coma to stabilise his condition.
"Yesterday evening, the doctor told us there's a blood clot in his left shoulder, and he's under observation at the High Dependency Ward.
"If the blood clot is still there by 6am tomorrow, he may lose his arm," Nurulbillah said.
Thaqif had his legs amputated on Friday to prevent spread of an infection. He had undergone surgery the next day to treat congealed blood in one of his hands.
He had been hospitalised after severe bouts of pain which occured days after he had been allegedly beaten by the assistant warden at his religious school hostel in Kota Tinggi.
Police have said that the boy and 14 others of his schoolmates were allegedly beaten with a water hose by the assistant warden on March 24 supposedly because they had made noise in the school surau.
Police obtained a four-day remand order on the 29-year-old suspect, who has a criminal record for theft and had served a 30-month jail term in the past.
