SEREMBAN: The family of a seven-year-old boy who was killed in a four-vehicle accident on the North-South Expressway (NSE) yesterday, are revealing that he may have had a premonition of his death one week ago.
Muhammad Wafiq Fitri died on-the-spot due to severe injuries after the car he was travelling in was rear-ended by a bus at Km271.7 of the NSE, near the Seremban rest area, at 7pm.
His father, Walilah Abdul Karim, 40, said his son had been asking for forgiveness from him and his wife, in the week leading up to the accident.
“I noticed that my son had been acting strangely for a week before the incident. He had continuously asked for forgiveness, and kept on repeating that he wanted to go to heaven,” said Walilah, who suffered light injuries in the crash.
In fact, his son, the second of three siblings, had apologised for his wrongdoings moments before the accident took place.
The family had been on their way home to Petaling Jaya, after attending a kenduri in Rembau.
“I didn’t see the changes in his behaviour as a sign that he would leave us forever. I am still in shock over the fact that I have lost a son, just in the blink of an eye,” he said when met at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (TJH) mortuary, this morning.
In the accident, his wife, Sri Yulianty Mukhtaruddin, 34, suffered fractured ribs and his eldest son, Muhammad Wazif Huzairi, 11, sustained liver injuries.
His two-year-old daughter, Puteri Wafiqah, was also badly injured.
All are receiving treatment at TJH.
When contacted, Nilai deputy police chief Superintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffie said preliminary investigation showed that the bus had initially hit a Toyota Estima, causing the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to skid to the left lane, before it was struck by another vehicle.
“The bus driver lost control of his vehicle, which rear-ended (the car driven by Walilah). The impact of the crash killed the boy instantly,” he said.
Azrul added that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
