KUALA LUMPUR: Some 700 people received the keys to their brand new homes at the Federal Territories Affordable Housing (Rumawip)’s Residensi Pandanmas development in Kampung Pandan here, today.
One of Rumawip’s projects in the Federal Territories, Residensi Pandanmas, which began construction in 2014, was completed nine months ahead of schedule.
The project’s units, which measure 850 sq ft and 900 sq feet and come with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, cost just RM280,000.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who officiated the launching ceremony, said Residensi Pandanmas is part of the government's initiative to ease the burden of low and middle-income buyers (B40 and M40).
He said the market price for similar units elsewhere could reach up to RM500,000 – but with the programme, buyers can get new units for below RM300,000.
"The government will continue to help low and middle-income buyers by providing them with middle-cost houses that they can afford.
"This is part of our contribution for the rakyat," Najib added.
Also present at the ceremony were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani and ASET Kayamas Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong.
The government plans to develop 80,000 Rumawip homes in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan over the span of five years.
It is learnt that as of March, a total of 55,609 Rumawip units have been built.
Single individuals with monthly incomes of less than RM10,000, or married couples with household incomes of less than RM15,000, are entitled to register for the project.
Buyers must also be Malaysians, aged 18 years and above, and either work or reside in the Federal Territories.
