KUALA LUMPUR: Ibrahim Mat Zin, better known as ‘Raja Bomoh Sedunia’ today admitted that he was guilty of performing bizarre rituals which were un-Islamic in nature, and pledged to repent.
Zin said his strange rituals were done under the instructions of another person, whose identity he chose not to disclose.
"I deeply regret the rituals I performed. I was just following instructions from someone who advised me that this was the right thing to do,” said Zin after his conditional release by the Syariah High Court today.
“I would like to apologise to all Muslims and non-Muslims in Malaysia because I have offended the nation without realising the consequences and had put my trust blindly in this person, who told me to create this drama with the rituals.”
He also pledged to stop using the title ‘Raja Bomoh’ (King of Shamans).
The 66-year-old pleaded guilty to all counts under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) 1997 (Act 559) by insulting or bringing into contempt the religion of Islam.
The case was heard by Syariah Chief Judge Datuk Haji Mohamed Ibrahim.
Due to his age and health, the court released him on a six-month good behaviour bond, with two sureties under the observation of the Federal Territories Mufti office.
Ibrahim was famously known for his theatrical rituals such using bamboo shoots as binoculars, and wielding a pair of coconuts.
Also present were Federal Territories Mufti Dr Zulkifli Al Bakri, Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) Director Abdul Aziz Jusoh and JAWI Chief Enforcement officer Wan Jaapar.
