JOHOR BARU: A surgery to amputate 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi's right arm, which was scheduled at 8am today, has been postponed.
His aunt, Dzuraidah Ahmad told the New Straits Times that doctors have decided to postpone the operation after Thaqif experienced an unstable heart condition.
“The surgery to amputate his arm was supposed to be this morning. It was supposed to be done at 8am.
“But doctors are delaying it now because they need to wait until his heart is more stable,” said Dzuraidah.
Thaqif, who is a pupil at a religious school in Kota Tinggi had his legs amputated by doctors last Friday to stop severe infection.
He was suspected to have became ill after allegedly receiving beatings from an assistant warden at his hostel on March 24.
Yesterday, Thaqif's family was told that doctors were monitoring the condition of Thaqif's right arm before decided on the operation.
The doctors decided about 1am this morning that the amputation was needed and the family has given their consent.
