KUALA LUMPUR: The death of 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, who was beaten by a hostel warden at a tahfiz school in Johor, has been classified as murder.
Announcing this today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police will be getting the full medical report from the hospital and complete their investigation soon.
“The police express our condolences to the family members of the deceased. The investigation of the case has been reclassified under Section 302 (of the Penal Code) for murder,” said Khalid in a series of postings on Twitter.
The case was previously investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Protection Act 2001.
Thaqif, whose legs were amputated after alleged beatings at his tahfiz school hostel, died at 2.05pm today at the High Dependency Ward of the Sultan Ismail Hospital, Johor.
Thaqif, who is a pupil at a religious school in Kota Tinggi, had his legs amputated by doctors last Friday to stop an infection.
This occurred after he allegedly received beatings from an assistant warden at his hostel, who beat him and 14 other pupils with a rubber hose on March 24.
Police have arrested the assistant warden to facilitate investigation for ill-treatment of children. His remand order was extended by another three days today.
