KUALA LUMPUR: The strong winds coupled with torrential downpour today wreaked havoc in the city centre today as trees were uprooted and a private university had parts of its roofs torn off.
A spokesman at the Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call from the university at Jalan Menara Gading in Taman Connaught at 3.51pm.
“A team was sent to scour the scene for any possible victims, but no one was hurt in the incident,” he said.
The next course of action had been left to the university’s management.
In Taman Bukit Cheras, an uprooted tree damaged a Mercedes-Benz at about 3pm and over in Taman Seri Petaling, the same fate befell a Volkswagen Passat at 3.16pm.
Four other vehicles were also damaged by uprooted trees at Taman Bukit Segar and Taman Desa Petaling.
Firemen were deployed to the scenes to remove the trees and fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incidents.
