Penang Governor Abdul Rahman sworn in for seventh term

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas was sworn in today for his seventh term as the state Governor.

State secretary Datuk Farizan Darus announced the appointment while Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop witnessed the swearing-in ceremony held at Seri Mutiara, his official residence.

Present was Abdul Rahman’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Seri Utama Hajah Majimor Shariff.

The new four-year term begins on May 1.

The ceremony were attended by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Minister I Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy and state executive councillors.

Abdul Rahman was first appointed as the seventh Yang DiPertua Negeri of Penang in 2001.

He succeeded Tun Hamdan Sheikh Tahir.

His following reappointments were in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
