NILAI: A police report lodged by a friend of S. Pravin, 15, who died on Tuesday after he was allegedly forced to ingest poison by school bullies, has shed new light on the case.
Nilai district police chief Superitendent Zaldino Zaludin said, based on the police report lodged by the witness last night, police believed that no foul play was involved in Pravin’s death.
“Based on the statement taken from the witness, we discovered that unrequited love had been the cause behind the teen’s death. According to the witness, he had met with Pravin prior to the incident behind a supermarket here on April 26 at 2pm, where the latter had admitted that he wanted to consume poison due to unrequited love,” said Zaldino.
“The witness claimed that he saw Pravin brought with him a bottle containing blue liquid believed to be poison during the meeting and he had tried to stop the latter from consuming it. However, his advice was ignored.
“The witness claimed that he was terrified and left his friend and he saw the latter continued walking into a nearby plantation area,” said Zaldino during a press conference held here this evening, adding that the witness had said he was the deceased's best friend.
Pravin, who was allegedly forced to ingest poison by a group of students, died after six days of treatment at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital at 9.30pm on May 2.
On allegations that a group of students was involved in the incident, Zaldino said, based on the statement recorded from the witness, the claim was made up as the deceased feared he will be scolded by his family.
“Investigation is still on-going. We will call the parents of the deceased to record their statement under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedures Code,” he said.
