PENAMPANG: A local man who threatened a businessman with a homemade gun, or ‘bakakuk’, at Kampung Sugud Timpangoh here, was detained by police yesterday.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Rosley Hobden said the 39-year-old suspect allegedly pointed the weapon at the victim, who is in his 40s, at 3.30pm.
The victim’s son managed to grab the gun from the suspect before lodging a police report at the Penampang police headquarters at around 6.30pm the same day.
“Acting on the police report, a team of police went to the suspect’s house at the same village and arrested him.
“Police also seized the bakakuk and one ‘buck shot’ bullet from the suspect,” said Rosley.
Police are still investigating motive in the incident and have detained the suspect to facilitate investigation under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for unlawful possession of firearms.
