Penang governor implores civil servants to reject corruption

GEORGETOWN: Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas today advised public servants in the state to protect the good name of the service by rejecting corruption when carrying out their duties.

"Strengthen (your) principles, reject bribery and be stern against abuse of power that can cause leakages," he said in his opening speech at the 13th state assembly here.

Abdul Rahman also said that he fully supports the state government’s initiative in combating corruption.

"This includes the stern action of removing and dismissing state public servants from their duties (and firing) those found guilty of corruption," he said.

Abdul Rahman also said that he hopes public servants will not hesitate to report illegal activities to authorities.

"I hope they will be brave enough to report on those trying to offer bribes to public servants in the state," he added.
