GEORGE TOWN: An enraged owner of Miami Green Condominium in Tanjung Bungah here wants DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang to educate his son Lim Guan Eng about the dangers of hillslope development and save the condominium from becoming another Highland Towers tragedy.
"Kit Siang was very vocal about the Highland Towers and Bukit Antarabangsa landslide disaster that happened in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, we are in Penang, the so-called DAP-lead state. Are they going to allow the same disaster to occur here, or will they actually be making changes,” he asked.
The resident who wished to be known as Micheal J, 53 said the Penang state government must learn from the two disasters and must ensure all safety measures has been taken before approving such massive project.
“We urge the state authorities to revoke the approval if it has been passed, otherwise it will be a disaster waiting to happen,” he said at a press conference at the condominium here, today.
Meanwhile, Miami Green Condominium residents sub committee member Jessica Lee said despite many landslide, flash floods and traffic woes in the state, the Penang state government continues to negligently put lives at risk by allowing developers to exploit the last remaining vestiges of primary forest in the island.
“It is appalling that the state government even considered such high rise and high density project to be built on a forested hillslope.” she said.
