KOTA BARU: Muslims are reminded to hold fast to sunnah prescribed by the government and reject other types of ideology, such as `Salafi Jihadi', as they will not bring any good.
Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said the government had chosen Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jammah as the form of Islam to be practiced here, and therefore all Malaysian Muslims must adhere to it.
"I would like to remind the public, especially Muslims, that the government had made the decision for the benefit of all Muslims. Therefore, they must follow it and not believe in other kinds of ideology," he said.
Mohamad Shukri also said that the public can discuss their different views on ideology in private, but they cannot do so openly in public spaces.
"Nowadays, there are many bad ideologies that have influenced people. (There are many people) in the country who are still confused and do not understand the real sunnah. This might be among the reasons why so many have strayed towards the wrong path," he said.
Mohamad Shukri was commenting on a recent statement that all religious experts must play a role in stamping out the spread of the `Salafi Jihadi" ideology in the country.
A report had stated that despite the death of Malaysian Islamic State (IS) leader Muhamad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, the Salafi Jihadi ideology of IS is still active and continues to spread via social media, although it has lost significant ground in Syria and Iraq.
