Shah Alam police station blaze: Building stored items seized from drug cases

SHAH ALAM: A building used to store items seized by Selangor police's Narcotics Department was badly burnt in an early morning fire that broke out at the Section 15 police station, here today.

The 3.30am incident saw 60 per cent of the storage premises, believed to be where police had kept properties forfeited from drug suspects, destroyed.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said they received a call on the incident at 3.43am.

He said a team of 21 firemen with two fire engines and an ambulance from the Shah Alam fire station were dispatched to the scene.

"The response team managed to control the blaze at 4.32am, before ending the operation at 6.54am.

"Initial reports stated that the fire occurred at the 780sq m building. The building sustained 60 per cent damage as a result," he said, adding that no casualties were reported.

Mohd Sani said the department's Forensics Unit was still investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said they received information that the fire was triggered by a short circuit.

He said this was based on statements from several witnesses.

"However, we are still waiting for reports from the Forensics Unit."
