KEMAMAN: A female lecturer at a public tertiary education institution is in critical condition and on life support at Kemaman Hospital after being struck by a falling tree at Bukit Kemuning on Monday.
According to Buletin TV3, the lecturer, along with seven university staff and 57 students, was conducting geological research in the area when the incident occurred. The tree reportedly fell suddenly, striking the 35-year-old victim and leaving her with severe head injuries.
The incident, which took place about 9am on Monday, was reported to the Kijal police station by the university authorities.
Kemaman district police chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlam, confirmed the incident in a media statement.
"On Nov 25, at 11.56am, the Kijal police station received a report regarding a Malay woman struck by a falling tree while conducting field research with seven staff and 57 students from a local university at Bukit Kemuning.
"As a result of the incident, the woman sustained severe injuries.
"The public is reminded that eco-forest parks, hiking trails, and recreational activities in the Terengganu Permanent Forest Reserve areas are prohibited during the monsoon season," he said.
