SANDAKAN: A magnitude 3.3 earthquake shook Sandakan early this morning but no damages were reported.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the 12.26am quake was centred at Sandakan, 267km Northwest of Tarakan, Indonesia and 25km Southwest of Beluran, Sabah.
"There is no tsunami threat. Tremors maybe felt in Sandakan and Beluran," said the department.
Meanwhile, Sandakan Civil Defence Force officer Lieutenant Ahmad Roslyn Mohd Kamel said its team has been despatched to patrol the district and monitor the situation.
"As of 3.30am, we have not received distress calls from members of the public with regards to the earthquake.
"From our observation, there has been no damage (that resulted from the weak earthquake). We will announce any further development." he said.
