MELAKA: University Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) will be sending eight students under a Double Degree Outbound and Mobility Outbound programme at HochSchule Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Art (HsH) in Germany, this coming August.
Five students from the faculty of Manufacturing Engineering (FKP) will be in a one year programme and three from the faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) will be in a semester programme, which is five months long.
Vice-Chancellor of UTeM, Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahibuddin, said the students were chosen through their academic and English skills.
“The students went through a psychology and psychometric test before they were selected,” he said after handing over mock cheques to the students in UTeM, today.
Six out of eight students are sponsored by the European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (Erasmus+).
A total of RM160,815 is sponsored under Erasmus+ and the Students Mobility Fund of UTeM, for the students from FKP and RM73,815 under Erasmus+ for FKE students.
“For the double degree programme, six months will be sponsored by Erasmus+ and six months will be from the UTeM fund.
“HsH University has also sent a number of students in a year period to UTeM.
“A total of 26 students gave been in UTeM so far,” he said.
UTeM has also cooperated with other universities from around the world such as Indonesia, Japan and Korea.
“Certain countries enjoy the exposure in Malaysia due to its multi-cultured people and the atmosphere itself.
“Also it is the best way to attract more people to visit Melaka,” he said.
One of the students from the double degree programme, 22-year-old Mohammad Luqman Mohammad Nor, is following in his father’s footsteps.
“My father was an engineer as well, so I guess I got that interest of furthering my studies from him.
“Also I want to be exposed to their studying skills and technology implemented,” he said.
Another student from the Mobility Outbound Programme, Albert Chan Bao Der, 22, is excited to learn the culture and atmosphere of the people in Germany.
“I am truely honoured and excited to leave to in August.
“I will of course miss my parents back at home, however it is once in a life time opportunity,” Albert said.
The programme and scholarships are open to all UTeM students who are interested to apply.
