KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists and bus passengers can now notify the Road Transport Department (RTD) of offences that they have witnessed through WhatsApp for immediate actions to be taken.
RTD director of enforcement Datuk V. Valluvan said in its latest bid to ensure safety of road users, the department have set up a ‘hotline’ to enable the public to report on errant drivers.
“We have set up a team to man this hotline, so road users can use this facility. They should also include a picture if possible, the location, time and the offences involved.
“Once we receive the message, we will alert our men on the ground and immediate action will be taken,” he said.
The hotline was launched on June 17. Members of the public who wishes to make any reports can contact send their complaints through WhatsApp to 011-5111 5252.
Valluvan was speaking to reporters today after inspecting buses at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan in conjunction with Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri which was launched on Sunday.
During the two days operation, RTD has taken action against 85 bus drivers for various offences including driving on the fast lane, smoking and using mobile phones while driving.
Two bus drivers in their 30s also tested positive for drugs, and had their licenses suspended in the operation.
More than 2,531 vehicles were checked nationwide.
“I hope that bus operators and drivers take this seriously as we do not want untoward incidents to occur,” he said.
Valluvan also warned drivers and operators of heavy vehicles to not to use the highways on June 23 and 24, as well as July 1 and 2, to ensure smoother traffic flow.
“I hope operators will comply with the prohibition but if they fail to do so, we will seize the vehicles,” he said.
A total of 3,128 RTD personnel were deployed nationwide for the operation, which is a joint-cooperation with the police, Fire and Rescue Department and other enforcement agencies.
