ALOR STAR: The Road Transport Department has set advocacy campaigns on road safety and the cultural adoption of traffic regulations as its top priority through it's Santuni Madani — One Leader One Village programme.
Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the programme's focus aligns with the department's mission to reduce road crash statistics, fatalities and injuries by at least 50 per cent by 2030.
"This programme is designed to uplift the socio-economic status of residents by promoting road safety within the Kampung Alor Senjaya community (and other villages).
"Through this initiative, the RTD offers targeted road safety services, including motorcycle inspections, helmet exchanges, mobile counter services, and health screenings.
"We've also incorporated various services in partnership with related departments and agencies to meet the specific needs of the community," he said at the programme's opening ceremony at Kampung Alor Senjaya here today.
Present were state RTD director Stien Van Lutam and state Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) deputy director Dr Mohammad Zaini Mohamud.
Aedy said the programme is aligned with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call to enhance the potential of selected villages' residents.
"The Santuni Madani programme reflects the federal government's goal for its leaders and department heads to engage directly with their respective selected villages and participate in community activities alongside the villagers," he added.
Aedy said Kampung Alor Senjaya had been chosen as the department's adopted village under this programme, marking its first implementation in Kedah.
"We are dedicated to providing the best and most efficient services to ensure the well-being of the people, in line with the government's aspirations," he added.
